    Overview:

Plastic Clad Silica fibers(PCS) have been pushed to the back of the bus due to the notoriety of single mode and multimode all glass fibers. There are a number of applications where PCS fibers make a lot of economic sense for short distance and high temperature applications. PCS in this report is the generic term used to describe Hard clad silica fibers as well. PCS fibers are available in larger diameters than all glass fibers and hence are easier to connectorize and handle. Automobile manufactures are now considering replacing POF with PCS for higher temperature, higher bandwidths, and tighter bending radius. The major market for PCS fiber today is in industrial control and for energy transfer.

The report analyzes the market for PCS in automobiles, home networking, consumer electronics, woven smart fabrics, energy transfer, sensing and others. Standards play a large part in the market development for PCS but little industry advocacy exists at standards making bodies. Larger market opportunities could be developed by a concerted industry push by an independent trade organization or other similar body if one existed! This is the only report available on "The Market for PCS fibers".
