Overview:
This report is designed to bring in one place all the issues covering ATM, both hypothetical and actual, and will be of use to any company either implementing ATM or supplying into the ATM equipment market.
Published January 1996, updated in january 1998 covers over 210 information-packed pages, it analyzes:
- Worldwide Equipment Markets
- European Equipment Markets
- Worldwide Trials & Commercial
- Implementations
- Standards
- Semiconductor Chip Technology Vendors
Hyped as the future of switching, and the focal point of the convergence of telecoms/datacoms, ATM has a future that, on the evidence uncovered for this volume, is not quite so certain. Whilst almost everybody round the world is playing with ATM in some shape or form, and there are a number of reasonable sized anticipatory commercial implementations, there is no strong sense of urgency about the technology. Only Telecom Finland has suggested it might be making money from ATM and that statement has not been much repeated after its initial utterance, leading to the conclusion it might have been a little premature.
