Overview:
The observations in this analysis of the Indian telecommunications sector have been advanced given the fact that the country has effected major liberalization measures. These measures have, and will continue to have, deep and far-reaching effects on the growth of the services and equipment markets. These measures have so drastically altered the entire scenario that an up-to-date analysis such as this one is called for, it being the need of the hour. Therefore, based on research from various sources in the government and the industry, the past and present situations have been reviewed. Then, forecasts and future trends have been put forward. Although the floodgates of liberalization in the telecom sector cannot be said to have fully opened, the breath of fresh air is very much there. What is more, is the positive swing has been steadily on the rise. However, it is anybodys guess as to when things will peak. It is fair to state that the projections of this analysis would largely hold good for the various segments in the next three to five years, given the present political situation and the rate at which the reforms are being undertaken. Things being as they are, any changes in policy can only be for the better.
